If Eunice kurtain was not her real name what does that make of the marriage to George Robertson Elder?

The 1877 marriage is registered in the ‘New Zealand, Marriage Index, 1840 1934’ between George Robertson Elder and Edner Kurtain. (Eunice was her mother’s name)
Your question has been raised by others as well so I called the Births Deaths and Marriages section of Internal Affairs. They advise that so long as she believed Edner Kurtain to be her name the vows she undertook under that name would be accepted as legally binding. So the marriage is and always was fully legal.
